Method

I use personalized approach to each individual student in order to maximize his/her interest, progress and results.

I strive to give beginning students a solid instrumental technique and a thorough understanding of music by taking into consideration each student’s unique personality, capabilities and interests.

Performances/ Recitals

Every student who takes piano lessons with me will have many opportunities to perform on stage.

We have two studio recitals:

one in spring, at the end of the academic year, where all of my students receive medals and trophies; and one in winter, during the holiday season.

Local festivals and competitions.

CAPMT(California Association of Professional Music Teachers) State Student Programs.

MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) events.

I don’t require any of my students to participate; however, I strongly encourage it. Performance is a time to be proud of and to celebrate! Take this opportunity to invite friends and family members to come and share the joy of your child’s accomplishments and progress.

Examination/ certification

Taking yearly examinations for most students is an important element of studying the piano, that contributes to the learning process. Exams motivate students and help them work towards achieving the goal. Examination programs include such important elements of study as Music Theory, Sight-reading, Technique and Ear training.

Serious students are encouraged to join examination program RCM ( The Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program)

Every year my students are invited to the Celebration of Excellence Recitals, a yearly event which recognizes the achievements of top examinees (those who obtain 90% and higher, 2% of all examinees).

Practice

Good piano practice habits are the key to successful learning. Practicing at home at the routine times is utterly essential to mastering the piano. "Good" practice is not just the time spent at the piano; it's about focusing on continuing improvement of technique, reading the notes, and connecting the language of music to the child's desire to play and grow as an artist. It's a journey with the ultimate goal to be able play any song or any piece of music one's heart desires.

20 minutes a day of “good” practice will easily make up for hours of weekly directionless and empty hearted play. Good practice habits help kids not only with piano learning but also with their school work. Nesting an idea that success comes from regular practice, repetition, goal setting and determination will help a child reach their goals throughout his/her entire life.

Just For Fun

For those who don't want to become world renowned musicians I say this: long daily practice is not for everyone. Not everyone is thrilled by the idea of doing competitions, recitals, or exam certifications. Some students just want to learn how to play the piano for their own personal enjoyment. That is totally understandable and I always tailor my teaching approach to individual needs and wants.

Playing the piano just for entertaining a family/friends crowd is a wonderful addition to a toolbox of lifelong skill sets. Music helps us to relax and for the brief moment take our minds off the hustle and bustle of everyday life, from the problems and challenges modern humanity is bound to face. And anyone who knows how to play music can turn into a source of inspiration and calm and can harmonize our stressful reality by simply playing our favorite tunes.
